Why Classical Pilates ?

Classical Pilates stays true to Joseph Pilates original method, following the  exercise sequences, principles and equipment design he created.

The Pilates system begins with the foundation, learning and repeating exercises on the mat, reformer and other pieces of equipment such as the tower, wunda chair and barrrels.

From this foundation, the body develops and learns more challenging and intricate exercises. The ultimate goal being to integrate this knowlege into everyday life and activities.

The system is the genius of Joe Pilates work. By following it you will become stronger, move better and be ready to take on anything.

Why MAT?

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a specialised approach to assessing and correcting muscular imbalances, joint instability, and movement inefficiencies. We are improving the contractile ability of muscles. It is a technique that can be used on any body to great effect.

The benefits of MAT include the following:

1. Address Muscle Weakness or Inhibition

  • MAT identifies muscles that are not contracting efficiently (they're "shut down" or inhibited).
  • It then uses specific activation techniques to improve the communication between the nervous system and the muscles.
  • This is useful when muscles aren't firing properly due to injury, stress, overuse, or compensation patterns.

2. Improve Joint Stability and Alignment

  • Weak or inactive muscles can lead to instability in joints.
  • By reactivating these muscles, MAT helps create better muscular support around joints, reducing stress and wear.

3. Reduce or Prevent Pain and Injury

  • Muscle imbalances can cause chronic pain (e.g., back, knee, or shoulder pain).
  • MAT helps correct the underlying imbalance rather than just treating the symptoms.
  • This can prevent further injury and reduce reliance on pain medication or repeated physical therapy.

4. Enhance Athletic Performance

  • For athletes, even minor muscle inhibition can lead to decreased strength, speed, or efficiency.
  • MAT can optimize muscle function, allowing for better performance, power output, and recovery.

5. Recover from Injury or Surgery

  • After an injury or surgery, certain muscles may become inhibited.
  • MAT can help re-establish proper function by jump-starting inactive muscles and improving neuromuscular control.

6. Complement Other Therapies

  • MAT is often used alongside physical therapy, chiropractic care, or strength training.
  • While other therapies may address joint mobility, fascia, or inflammation, MAT specifically targets the muscular system and neuromuscular control.
